Web 2.0 Tools for Educators
Contact Hours: This will vary depending on your interests. Participants will have the opportunity to receive up to 16 PLU contact hours based on the number and type of modules completed. Each module will address a specific type of Web 2.0 application. Upon successful completion of a module, a certificate will be issued to you. It is NOT necessary to specify which modules you intend on pursuing in advance.
Description: The Internet has evolved opening up a host of applications that educators can utilize, even in the one-computer classroom. This ten session course will explore the topics below and how they can be incorporated into the classroom, for professional, and/or for personal use. (Topics may be altered / substituted with advanced notice). All modules include short assignments and mini-projects to demonstrate newly acquired skills.
Participants will receive details about their assignments through a course website, which will be given to you after registration. Not all course modules may be ready at once.

Dates / Times Offered: This course will be delivered online. There will be "office" hours where participants and the course facilitator will have the opportunity for live, online interaction and instruction, but the majority of the coursework can be completed on your own. There will be several "Begin" dates, which will allow for course participants to join into the class on a rolling basis.
Session #3 Begin Date #3: March 11, 20008
Office Hours will be from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. ALL participants will be required to check in during this time frame on their BEGIN date. It will last no longer than 30 minutes and the course introduction will be offered twice during that time period.
The following table lists the dates when specific modules will be discussed live online. Modules that require you to check in for live instruction will last no longer than 20 minutes and will be repeated three times (3:00, 3:35, 4:05) so participants can check in between 3:00 - 4:30 to attend. You will be notified of required dates at least 1 week in advance if they do not already appear below.

2. Tag your sites with keywords for easy searching and organization.
3. Make certain bookmarks private so they are only visible by you.
4. Use a shared del.icio.us account among a grade level (elementary / middle) or among teachers of a particular discipline (middle / high) to share resources and provide students with a common resource library.
5. Search del.icio.us for websites by keyword and subscribe to them
6. "Follow" del.icio.us accounts created by others to mine them for resources
7. Embed your bookmarks and/ or a set of your bookmarks into your blog or wiki.

Description: A wiki is a website that allows for multiple authors. It is a wonderful tool for group collaboration on a project whether for professional use or as tool for your students to use. Wikis can be password protected and unlisted to prevent open access to the content. In addition, each student can have their own account (email not necessary) so you can track any and all changes they make to the website. Wikis are simple to use and can be a tool for both very young to high school students. For some examples, you can go here and scroll down the page. They are grouped by grade levels.
In this course you will learn how to:
1. Set up a wikispaces account and create your own ad-free, education wiki.
2. Edit and format pages
3. Insert pictures and documents.
4. Add extra pages
5. Add links to internal and external pages
6. Edit the navigation menu
7. Modify the look and feel of the wiki
8. Modify the settings on pages
9. Learn how to manage your wiki
10. Add widgets to your wiki for interactive content.
